Counselor Lessons

Beginning of the Year Lessons

Every fall we go into classes to talk with our students about how they can see their counselor, why students might talk with a counselor, discuss confidentiality, mandated reporting, and ask them to take a short survey.

Digital Citizenship

In the spring, we go into health classes to teach our students about being good citizens in their digital worlds. Being online is such a huge part of our kids lives now. Instead of telling them to not be online, we want to teach them how to make good choices when they are online. In 6th grade, students learn about internet safety, privacy, and security. This lesson includes predator awareness and the importance of watching what they share. Our 7th graders learn about how to prevent cyber-bullying, healthy relationship skills, and the importance of not feeding the digital trolls. 8th graders learn how to build a positive digital reputation and the potential consequences of sharing inappropriate content. This 8th grade lesson also covers sexting, the sharing of nude or sexually suggestive images, which has unfortunately become an issue for some middle and high school students.
